چکیده
Introduction: Pterygium is a common degenerative disease of the anterior segment eye characterized by wedge-shaped fibrovascular dysplasia bulbar conjunctiva with prevalence 12%. Exact etiology unknown; risk factors include, long term exposure ultraviolet B rays, dust, wind, chemicals and air pollution. To minimize recurrence after traditional bare sclera surgical technique, adjuvant therapies modifications to technique are being adopted. Geographically, Vijayapura located close equator inherent higher radiation exposures. Of late there an upsurge in number patients diagnosed pterygium opting for correction. Conjunctival autograft transplant promising modification associated significant reduction pterygium-induced astigmatism thereby improved visual acuity, decreased postoperative complications rates. Objective: evaluate outcome following conjunctival management primary pterygium. Methods: The present study was conducted department Ophthalmology, B.L.D.E. deemed be university Shri B.M. Patil Medical College, Hospital Research Centre, between October 2019 April 2021. A total 52 above 18 years diagnosis were included study. Age, gender, occupation, side severity recorded. Preoperative acuity corresponding decimal pin whole equivalent calculated each patient. Upon surgery under local anaesthesia, postoperatively, hole evaluated at day 1, 7 30. Comparison pre data done using appropriate statistical tests. Results: Mean age 54.38±10.70 69.3% belonged group 50-70 years. Slight female predominance noted male ratio 1.17:1. Most farmers (48.5%) followed housewives (23.1%). All had nasal prominently on left than right (61.5% vs 38.5%). 76.9% grade 2 pterygia. Preoperatively, most 6/24 (25%), 6/36 (19.2%) 6/60 (17.3%). mean value 0.35±0.21. Compared preoperative improvement seen 1 (p=0.000), (p=0.001) 30 (p=0.001). Similarly increase postoperatively (0.001) values. Factors including age, association based all follow ups. complication day1 subconjunctival haemorrhage (36%) one graft edema retraction (13.5%). Resolution 30.Conclusion: feasible safe option severe grading.

Pterygium is characterized by the thickening of the bulbar conjunctiva and the invasion of the cornea from the sclerocorneal limbus to the central portion of the cornea. Pterygium produces corneal deformation, which extends toward the central portion of the cornea. The visual disorders depend on the corneal extent. The treatment goal is the removal of the corneal and conjunctival portion of the...
